Horizontal Wells
RECON’s HDPLT platform is ideal for challenging horizontal environments. HDD™ is the only PLT logging system to directly measure a fullbore cross sectional gas/liquid holdup, accurately imaging how the gas & water are flowing.
RECON’s in-house, industry leading production logging analysis skill sets and an industry standard production logging analysis package, coupled with our HDD™ High Definition Data production measurements, accurately allocates inflows across the complex completed producing vertical & lateral sections.
Case History: Shale Gas Horizontal 1
This case history is of a horizontal shale gas well producing ~ 4 MMSCFD & 200 bbl/day of water. RECON’s accurate holdup measurements identified the water inflow sections and using temperature/flow meter and holdup, the analysis matched with high confidence the flow contributions.
Case History: Horizontal Gas & Water
This case history is of a horizontal gas well producing high rates of gas with less than 500bbl/day of water. RECON’s accurate holdup measurements identified the water inflow sections and using temperature/flow meter and holdup, the analysis matched with high confidence the flow contributions. This particular production log enabled completion engineers to understand how each perforated cluster was performing. In this example the well has very uniform perf cluster performance.
Case History: Horizontal Gas & Water (2)
This case history is of a horizontal gas well producing high rate gas & less than 1000bbl/day of water. RECON’s accurate holdup measurements identified the water inflow sections. Using temperature/flow meter and holdup, the analysis matched, with high confidence, the flow contributions.
This particular production log helped the asset team better understand how their rock performance, enabling better decisions on where to set the next horizontal lateral on their property.
Case History: Horizontal Gas & Water (3)
This case history is of a horizontal gas well producing high rate gas & water. RECON’s accurate holdup measurements identified the water inflow sections and using temperature/flow meter and holdup, the analysis matched with high confidence the flow contributions. Instrumentation was deployed on Well Tractor.
This particular production log helped the asset manager identify water break through in this horizontal well. The asset was performing at a high rate of gas until two perforation clusters communicated with an unknown fault, channeling water in from an interval below. This water influx lowered the gas production and produced at a high rate of undesired saline water.

Production Logging
RECON’s HDPLT platform is ideal for any standard vertical producing environment.

Case History: Vertical Well, Gas & Water
This case history is of a vertical gas and water well producing low volume gas with less than 50bbl/day of water. RECON’s accurate measurements identified the water inflow sections and using temperature/flow meter, fluid identification & holdup, the analysis matched with high confidence the flow contributions.
This particular production log helped the asset manager decision to set plugs to shut off water inflow. & remediation results were commented back that RECONs data & analysis were bang on to the water shut off, plus the company gained back more gas production.
Case History: Vertical Well, Gas & Water - Example 2
This case history is of a vertical gas and water well producing high volume gas with less than 200bbl/day of water. RECON’s HDD™ High Definition Data format overlaying the three fluid ID sensors (density, capacitance and holdup), confirms where the water is entering into the wellbore. RECON delivers the highest-confidence data.
Case History: Multi-Phase HD PLT
This case history is of a vertical well, flowing ~ 200 bb/day water, 200 bbl/day oil & 500 MCF/day gas on surface. RECON’s HDD™ High Definition Production Logging system is ideal since our High Definition Holdup measurement can identify the gas phase starting to flow and breakout of the oil. In addition, water is identified in this flowing wellbore.
